  • How To Play 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball Poker

27 triple draw rulesThe game of 2-7 triple draw is actually a lowball form of the popular poker game, Five Card Draw. In 2-7 triple draw, the player with the best low hand around the table takes home the pot. The game of 2-7 triple draw has an additional couple of drawing rounds that traditional Five Card Draw does not, thus the name 2-7 triple draw as there are three drawing rounds in this game. 2-7 triple draw can be a great game to play once you have mastered the concepts of trying to form the best low hand, which is the most difficult aspect of this Triple Draw poker game.

Dealing 2-7 Triple Draw and Initial Betting

The game of 2-7 triple draw is played using a standard deck of fifty-two playing cards. Before the game of 2-7 triple draw is dealt, the first two players to the left of the dealer chip or dealer button put in mandatory forced bets known as the big blind and the small blind. The big blind is the upper betting limit and the small blind is the lower betting limit, so in a game of $2/$4, the big blind is $4, and the small blind is $2.

Each player is first dealt five cards face down. These are the hole or pocket cards in 2-7 triple draw. The first round of betting begins with the third player to the left of the dealer chip or dealer button, just past the two blind players. Players may call, raise or fold. Once all players have acted, the first round of betting comes to an end. The first draw begins next. The player to the left of the dealer starts the first draw round. During the first draw, players may discard any of the cards in their hands and draw new cards from the deck. Note: players do not have to discard and draw new cards unless they choose to; they may elect to keep all five of their original cards.

Once all players have discarded and drawn their new cards, the next round of betting begins. Again, players may choose to check, bet or call, raise, or fold. The second drawing round begins, followed by another round of betting beginning with the player to the left of the dealer chip or dealer button. The final round of drawing begins, and the final round of betting.

If more than one player is left after the final betting round, the showdown commences and all players reveal their hands. The best low hand wins. In the event that two hands of the same value are shown, the pot is split evenly.

    2-7 Triple Draw Pointers

When playing 2-7 triple draw that most of the hands that were normally considered good, strong hands are now the worst possible hands to have. Many players have difficulty playing 2-7 triple draw when they are used to games like Omaha and Texas Holdem. Playing 2-7 triple draw means almost always rethinking or reversing the strategy that you have developed for ordinary games of poker.

It is often the case in 2-7 triple draw that there may not be enough cards in a standard deck to accommodate three rounds of drawing for numerous players. In the event that there are not enough cards, the discarded pile of cards should be reshuffled and made into the drawing deck.
